The “Zaporozki Tulumbasy” project was founded in 2012 on the basis of the NGO “Business Technologies and Culture Development Center”. This project is devoted to the revival of authentic Ukrainianmusical instruments. From the beginning of the century, powerful big drummers – Zaporozki Tulumbasy were used for the expression of will and unity of the people.
Today, we revive not only the traditions of playing on these instruments, but also the technologies of their production.
During the existence of the project, we managed to take part in many public events: reconstruction of the Khotyn battle; drum evenings near the main Christmas tree on Sofia Square in Kyiv; Civic meetings; Cossack competitions “Lava on Lava”; Various solemn Cossack events and a lot of others.
Thanks to the constant historical and scientific work on studying the issues related to the Tulumbas, the project began an educational activity to popularize gathered information through holding interactive lectures and practical master classes on playing Tulumbas and other Cossack musical instruments.
According to materials from scientific sources, the masters of the project began to reproduce historically true musical instruments replics of different times and designs for contemporary theatrical and film productions. In 2013, Olena Shevchuk has produced a television film devoted to rebirth of Zaporozki Tulumbasy.
Within materials of this project it was decided to add Zaporozki Tulumbasy to the objects of the intangible cultural heritage of Zaporizhzhia and Ukraine.
